Spreads by rhizomes. In the wild it is typically found in dry, sandy, sunny areas. Plant is a rosette for most of the year until flowering. Attracts a wide assortment of bees, butterflies, moths, wasps, flies, and beetles. Seeds are also eaten by many birds.
